How to play
Guess the hidden five-letter word in six tries. Type a word and press Enter. Green means the letter is in the right spot, yellow means it's in the word but elsewhere, and gray means it isn't in the word. Each guess must be a real word. Play in any of 12 languages from the tabs; every language has its own daily word and leaderboard. Fewer guesses rank higher, and time breaks ties.

- Don't reuse gray letters: every guess should test something new.
- A yellow letter rules out its spot as well as confirming the letter.

Open with a word full of common, different letters. Vowels and frequent consonants (in English, words like CRANE or SLATE) tell you the most in one guess; avoid repeated letters until you know you need them.
Use every clue in your next guess. Keep green letters in place, move yellow letters to new positions and never reuse gray ones. If many words still fit, a guess made of untried letters can split the options faster.
Watch for double letters and common endings. When guesses keep failing with only a few letters unknown, the answer may repeat a letter or follow a pattern such as -IGHT or -OUND. Fewer guesses always rank first; time only breaks ties.
Frequently asked questions
How are repeated letters coloured?
Each letter of the answer can be matched only once. If you guess a word with two E's and the answer has one, only one E is coloured — green if it's in the right spot, otherwise yellow — and the other is gray.
Do I need to type accents?
No. Accents are ignored (é counts as e), except for letters that belong to the language's own alphabet, such as Spanish ñ, German ä, ö and ü, or Turkish ı.
Is there a daily Word Guess in my language?
Yes, in each of the 12 languages: everyone playing that language gets the same word each day, with its own leaderboard. The answer stays on our server until you finish, so it can't be looked up in the page.
Is Word Guess free to play?

Do I need an account?

Our servers replay every move of your game and measure the time themselves, so leaderboard results can't be faked.
