About Snake

Snake is the arcade classic: steer a growing snake around the board and eat the food that appears. Each piece of food makes the snake longer and adds to your score. Hitting a wall or your own tail ends the game.

How to play

Steer with the arrow keys, WASD or swipe. Eat food to grow. Hitting a wall or yourself ends the game.

Tips and strategies

  • Stay near the walls early on to keep the centre of the board open.
  • Plan your route so you never trap yourself in a dead end.
  • As the snake grows, move in long zig-zag lanes to use the space efficiently.

Snake strategy guide

Use the edges early. Circling near the walls keeps the middle open for later, when your tail is long and space is short.

Don't chase food into dead ends. Before turning toward food, check that you can still get out once your body follows you in.

Late in the game, sweep in lanes. Zig-zagging across the board in neat rows keeps the free space in one piece, so your tail always leaves you a way out.

Frequently asked questions

How do I play Snake?

Steer with the arrow keys, WASD, a swipe or the on-screen pad. Eat food to grow one segment longer; hitting a wall or your own body ends the game.

How is the score counted?

One point per piece of food. The board is 20×20 and the snake moves at a steady pace, so planning matters more than reflexes.

Do I earn coins in Snake?

Yes, once you eat at least 5 pieces of food. Shorter games still count on the leaderboard but don't earn coins or points.

Is Snake free to play?

Yes. Every game on Puzzimo is completely free and runs in your browser on desktop, tablet and phone — no download or installation.

Do I need an account?

No. You can play instantly as a guest and still appear on the leaderboards. Sign in with Google, Discord or LINE to keep your scores on every device.

How does the daily Snake challenge work?

How are leaderboard results verified?

Our servers replay every move of your game and measure the time themselves, so leaderboard results can't be faked.
