About Reversi

Reversi is the classic game of flipping discs: trap your opponent's pieces between yours to turn them over. It takes a minute to learn and a lifetime to master. Beat the computer to put your score on the leaderboard.

How to play

You play black and move first. Place a disc so that it traps a straight line of white discs between it and another black disc; the trapped discs flip to black. If you can't move, you pass. When neither side can move, the player with more discs wins. Legal moves are marked with dots.

Tips and strategies

  • Corners can never be flipped — they're the best squares on the board.
  • Avoid the squares right next to an empty corner; they hand the corner to your opponent.
  • Having more moves available matters more than having more discs early on.

Reversi strategy guide

Take the corners. A corner disc can never be flipped and anchors the edges next to it; avoid the squares diagonally next to an empty corner, which hand it to the computer.

Fewer discs early means more options. Flipping many discs in the opening often gives the computer more moves; limit its choices instead and win the discs back at the end.

Look for forced passes. If you can leave the computer with no legal move, you play twice in a row — a strong way to grab the last edges.

Frequently asked questions

How do I play Reversi?

You play black and move first on an 8×8 board. Place a disc so it outflanks a line of white discs, which then flip to black. A side with no legal move passes, and when neither side can move, whoever has more discs wins.

How strong is the computer?

Easy looks one move ahead, Medium two and Hard four. Ties between equally good moves are broken by the game's seed, so every reply can be replayed and checked.

How are wins ranked?

Only wins count, ranked by how many discs you finish with — a 50–14 win beats a 33–31 one. Losses aren't submitted.

Is Reversi free to play?

Yes. Every game on Puzzimo is completely free and runs in your browser on desktop, tablet and phone — no download or installation.

Do I need an account?

No. You can play instantly as a guest and still appear on the leaderboards. Sign in with Google, Discord or LINE to keep your scores on every device.

How does the daily Reversi challenge work?

Every day at 00:00 UTC everyone gets the same new puzzle. Only your first finish of the day counts on the leaderboard.

How are leaderboard results verified?

Our servers replay every move of your game and measure the time themselves, so leaderboard results can't be faked.
