About Pyramid Solitaire

Pyramid is a classic adding-up solitaire: pair cards that total 13 to clear a 28-card pyramid. It rewards thinking ahead about which pairs to keep, and every deal here has been checked by a solver to be winnable.

How to play

Remove uncovered cards in pairs that add up to 13 (Jack 11, Queen 12; Ace is 1). Kings are 13 and go on their own. Tap one card, then its partner. The top card of the waste can pair too. Draw from the stock when you're stuck — you can go through it three times. Clear the whole pyramid to win.

Pairs adding to 13 clear together

Tips and strategies

  • Remove Kings as soon as they're free — they need no partner.
  • Before pairing, check whether another card could use the same partner better.
  • Clear the rows evenly: cards deep in the pyramid are the hardest to free.

Pyramid Solitaire strategy guide

Remove Kings as soon as they are uncovered: they need no partner, and each one frees the cards beneath it.

When several pairs are possible, choose the one that uncovers the most cards — usually a pair taken from the pyramid itself rather than one that uses the waste.

Keep track of partners. If all four 9s are still buried, the 4s have nothing to pair with yet, so don't burn a pass through the stock hoping for a card that is still covered.

Frequently asked questions

How do I play Pyramid Solitaire?

Remove uncovered cards in pairs that add up to 13: Ace counts 1, Jack 11 and Queen 12, and a King (13) goes on its own. The top card of the waste can pair too. Clear the whole 28-card pyramid to win.

How many times can I go through the stock?

Three times. After that, only the cards left in the pyramid and on the waste can be paired.

Can every deal be won?
