About Nonogram

A nonogram is a picture logic puzzle. The numbers beside each row and above each column give the lengths of the filled blocks in that line, in order. Combine row and column clues to work out which cells are filled, and a hidden picture appears. Every puzzle here has a unique solution.

How to play

Numbers beside each row and above each column tell you the lengths of the filled runs in that line, in order, with at least one gap between runs. Fill cells (drag to paint several) and mark cells you know are empty with ✕. Every puzzle can be solved by logic alone.

Leave at least one gap between runs

Tips and strategies

  • Start with large clues: in a row 10 cells wide, a clue of 7 must cover the middle four cells.
  • Mark cells you know are empty with ✕ — they are as useful as filled cells.
  • A line whose clues plus the gaps between them add up to its full width can be filled completely.

Nonogram strategy guide

Start with the overlap. If a run is longer than half its line, some cells are filled wherever it sits: on a 10-cell line, a run of 7 always covers the middle 4 cells. Look for big clues, and for lines whose clues nearly add up to the full length.

Mark empty cells with ✕. Once a line's runs are complete, cross out the rest; the crosses tell the crossing lines where their runs can't go, and that is often what unlocks them.

Work from the edges. A filled cell next to the border must belong to that line's first run, so you can extend it to the run's full length. Keep switching between rows and columns: every cell you settle is a new clue for the line crossing it.

Frequently asked questions

Can every Nonogram be solved without guessing?

Yes. Each puzzle is checked by a line-by-line solver before you play, so it can be finished by logic alone, one row or column at a time.

What do the numbers mean?

Each number is a run of filled cells in that row or column, in order. Runs are separated by at least one empty cell, so the clue 3 1 means three filled cells, a gap, then one filled cell.

Which size should I start with?

5×5 takes a minute or two and teaches the basics, 10×10 is the classic size, and 15×15 needs longer chains of reasoning across many lines.

Is Nonogram free to play?

Yes. Every game on Puzzimo is completely free and runs in your browser on desktop, tablet and phone — no download or installation.

Do I need an account?

No. You can play instantly as a guest and still appear on the leaderboards. Sign in with Google, Discord or LINE to keep your scores on every device.

How does the daily Nonogram challenge work?

Every day at 00:00 UTC everyone gets the same new puzzle. Only your first finish of the day counts on the leaderboard.

How are leaderboard results verified?

Our servers replay every move of your game and measure the time themselves, so leaderboard results can't be faked.
