Minesweeper
Clear the field without hitting a mine.
About Minesweeper
Minesweeper is a logic game of hidden mines. Each revealed number tells you how many of the eight surrounding cells contain a mine, and your first click is always safe. Use the numbers to work out where the mines are, flag them, and open every safe cell as fast as you can.
How to play
Click a cell to reveal it. Numbers show how many mines touch that cell. Right-click (or long-press) to flag a mine. Click a number whose mines are all flagged to open its neighbours.
Tips and strategies
- A 1 touching exactly one hidden cell means that cell is a mine.
- Click a number whose mines are all flagged to open all its other neighbours at once.
- Learn common patterns such as 1-2-1 and 1-2-2-1 along walls — they solve instantly.
Minesweeper strategy guide
Start with the certain moves: a number touching exactly as many hidden cells as its value means all of them are mines, and a number whose mines are all flagged makes every other neighbour safe. Flag only the mines you'll chord around; every flag costs time.
Learn the classic patterns. Along a wall, 1-2-1 means the mines sit under the two 1s, and 1-2-2-1 means they sit under the two 2s. Comparing two neighbouring numbers often proves which cell between them is safe.
Guess only when nothing else is certain. When you must, pick the cell that would reveal the most — usually one away from high numbers, or a cell whose opening could cascade into an empty area.
Frequently asked questions
Can the first click hit a mine?
No. Mines are placed after your first click, away from that cell and its neighbours, so the first click always opens a safe area.
What are the board sizes?
Beginner is 9×9 with 10 mines, Intermediate 16×16 with 40 mines and Expert 30×16 with 99 mines.
What does clicking a number do?
If you have flagged as many neighbours as the number shows, clicking it (a chord) opens all its other neighbours at once. It is the fastest way to clear safe cells, but a wrong flag will set off a mine.
Is Minesweeper free to play?
Yes. Every game on Puzzimo is completely free and runs in your browser on desktop, tablet and phone — no download or installation.
