Hearts
Dodge the hearts and the queen of spades.
About Hearts
Hearts is the classic trick-taking game where points are bad. Pass your dangerous cards, duck under the lead, and dump the queen of spades on someone else — then climb the leaderboard with your lowest scores.
How to play
You play against three computer players. Each hand, first pass 3 cards (left, right, across, then no pass). The 2♣ leads; follow suit if you can, otherwise play any card. The highest card of the led suit takes the trick. Every heart you take is 1 point and the Q♠ is 13 — unless you take all of them and shoot the moon, giving everyone else 26. Hearts can't be led until one has been played. When someone reaches 50, the lowest score wins.
Tips and strategies
- Pass the Q♠, A♠ and K♠ unless you hold plenty of low spades to protect them.
- Try to empty a suit early so you can discard hearts and high cards on its tricks.
- Keep a close eye on anyone taking every heart — stop them from shooting the moon by taking one yourself.
Hearts strategy guide
Pass the danger. The Q♠ and high spades, high hearts, and cards from short suits are the best passes; emptying a suit lets you discard points later.
Duck rather than win. Play the highest card that still loses the trick, especially in hearts, so your high cards don't scoop up points.
Watch for the moon. If one computer is taking every heart, take a single heart yourself to stop the 26-point swing.
Frequently asked questions
What are the Hearts rules here?
You play against three computer players. Each hand you pass 3 cards — left, right, across, then no pass, repeating. The 2♣ leads, you must follow suit, no hearts or Q♠ on the first trick unless you have nothing else, and hearts can't be led until one has been discarded.
How does scoring work?
Each heart you take is 1 point and the Q♠ is 13. Take all 26 and you shoot the moon: everyone else gets 26 instead. When someone reaches 50, the lowest score wins.
How are wins ranked?
Only wins count, scored 100 minus your points — a 50-point game won with 4 points scores 96.
