About FreeCell

FreeCell is the solitaire of pure skill: all 52 cards are dealt face up, so nothing is left to luck. Almost every deal can be won with good planning — and every deal here is checked by a solver first.

How to play

Move all cards to the four foundations, building each suit from Ace to King. In the eight columns, stack cards downwards in alternating colours. Each of the four free cells holds one card. You can move a group of cards at once when there are enough free cells and empty columns to do it one card at a time. Safe cards go to the foundations automatically.

Each free cell holds one card
An empty column takes any card
More free space moves longer runs

Tips and strategies

  • Free the Aces and Twos early — they're usually buried.
  • Keep free cells empty for as long as you can; each one doubles what you can move.
  • An empty column is worth more than a free cell: it lets you move long sequences in one go.

FreeCell strategy guide

Plan before your first move. FreeCell deals every card face up, so find the Aces and low cards buried deepest and work out how to dig them out before you touch anything.

Treat free cells as a loan. Every card parked in a cell shrinks how many cards you can move as a group, so empty them again as soon as you can and keep the last one free unless it wins something concrete.

An empty column is worth more than a free cell because it doubles how many cards you can move together. Build long runs in alternating colours, and when a column is nearly clear, finish emptying it.

Frequently asked questions

Is every FreeCell deal solvable?

Almost every random FreeCell deal can be won, and here every one can: each deal is checked by a solver before you see it, including the daily deal.

How many cards can I move at once?

As many as you could move one by one through the empty spaces: (free cells + 1), doubled for every empty column. With four free cells and no empty column that is 5 cards; one empty column makes it 10. An empty column you move into doesn't count.

Which cards go to the foundations automatically?

Only safe ones: a card goes up by itself once both foundations of the opposite colour hold the rank just below it, so no card you might still need is taken away.

Can I play FreeCell on my phone?

Yes, right in your phone's browser, with no app to install. Tap Landscape to turn the table sideways with bigger cards, or Full screen to hide the browser bars.

Is FreeCell free to play?

Yes. Every game on Puzzimo is completely free and runs in your browser on desktop, tablet and phone — no download or installation.

Do I need an account?

No. You can play instantly as a guest and still appear on the leaderboards. Sign in with Google, Discord or LINE to keep your scores on every device.

How does the daily FreeCell challenge work?
