About Dominoes

Dominoes is a timeless tile game of matching numbers. Build the line, block the computer's numbers and empty your hand first — the more pips you leave the computer holding, the higher you climb on the leaderboard.

How to play

You and the computer get 7 tiles each; the rest form the boneyard. You lead with any tile. After that, tap a tile whose number matches one of the two open ends of the line (if it fits both, tap the end you want). If you can't play, you draw from the boneyard automatically. Play all your tiles first to win. If nobody can play, the lower pip total wins. Your score is 20 plus the pips left in the computer's hand.

Match a tile to an open end

Tips and strategies

  • Play heavy tiles early: if the game blocks, the lower pip total wins.
  • Keep a variety of numbers in your hand so you always have a match.
  • If the computer had to draw on a number, try to leave that number open again.

Dominoes strategy guide

Get rid of heavy tiles early. Doubles and high tiles cost the most if the game blocks, and they're the hardest to place late on.

Keep your options open. Play so that the open ends show numbers you still hold several of, and you'll rarely be forced to draw.

Watch what the computer draws for. If it had to draw on a number, it's short of it — making that number show on both ends can force more draws.

Frequently asked questions

Which version of Dominoes is this?

The Draw game with a double-six set: you and the computer get 7 tiles each and the other 14 form the boneyard. You lead with any tile; after that each tile must match one of the two open ends.

What happens when I can't play?

You draw from the boneyard automatically until a tile fits, and pass if it runs out. If both players are stuck, the hand is blocked and the lower pip total wins; equal totals are a draw.

How are wins scored?

Only wins count. You score 20 plus the pips left in the computer's hand (minus your own if the game was blocked). On Hard, the computer keeps its numbers open and aims at the ones you've had to draw for.
