Breakout
Bounce the ball and smash every brick.
About Breakout
This Breakout puts every wall inside a metal fortress. Thread the ball through a narrow gap, catch the split power-ups and watch a swarm of balls tear the inside apart. Every game is replayed on our server, so the leaderboards are fair.
How to play
Move the paddle by dragging on the board, or hold the arrow keys or the on-screen buttons. Each level is a fortress: grey metal blocks can't be broken, so find the gap and get the ball inside to break the 50 coloured bricks. Bricks drop power-ups — catch them with the paddle: blue splits your highest ball into three, green widens the paddle, red shrinks it. You have three lives and lose one only when every ball is gone.
Tips and strategies
- Aim for the gaps: hitting the ball with the paddle's edge sends it at a sharper angle.
- Once a ball is inside, catch every blue capsule — the split copies the highest ball, the one already in the fortress.
- Red capsules shrink the paddle: dodge them if you can.
Breakout strategy guide
Work the gap. Metal bounces the ball like the side walls do, so use the paddle's edges to set an angle that threads the opening instead of hammering the metal.
Split when it counts. A split copies the highest ball, so catching blue capsules while a ball is inside the fortress turns it into a swarm that clears the inside in seconds.
Guard your last ball. With many balls in play, stay under the lowest ones; when only one is left, play it safe — you lose a life only when every ball is gone.
Frequently asked questions
How do I play Breakout?
Keep the ball in play with the paddle and break every coloured brick. Grey metal walls can't be broken, so get the ball through the gaps. Clear a level's 50 bricks and the next fortress appears, a little faster. You have three lives and lose one only when every ball has fallen.
What do the power-ups do?
Half of all broken bricks drop a blue capsule that splits your highest ball into three. Rarer green capsules make the paddle wider for 20 seconds, and very rare red ones make it narrower for 15 seconds. Catch a capsule with the paddle to use it; up to 30 balls can be in play.
How is Breakout ranked?
By the number of bricks you break, then by the shortest time. Every level holds 50 bricks, so runs compare fairly. You earn coins once you break at least 5 bricks.
Is Breakout free to play?
Yes. Every game on Puzzimo is completely free and runs in your browser on desktop, tablet and phone — no download or installation.
Do I need an account?
No. You can play instantly as a guest and still appear on the leaderboards. Sign in with Google, Discord or LINE to keep your scores on every device.
How does the daily Breakout challenge work?
Every day at 00:00 UTC everyone gets the same new puzzle. Only your first finish of the day counts on the leaderboard.
How are leaderboard results verified?
Our servers replay every move of your game and measure the time themselves, so leaderboard results can't be faked.
