2048
Slide and merge tiles to reach 2048.
About 2048
2048 is a sliding-tile puzzle on a 4×4 board. Every move slides all tiles in one direction; equal tiles merge and add their value to your score. A new tile appears after each move, so the board slowly fills up — the game ends when no move is possible.
How to play
Use the arrow keys or swipe to slide all tiles. Two tiles with the same number merge into one. Keep merging to build the 2048 tile — and keep going for a higher score.
Tips and strategies
- Keep your highest tile in one corner and build a chain of decreasing tiles next to it.
- Favour two or three directions and avoid the one that pulls your big tile out of its corner.
- Merge small tiles early so the board doesn't fill up with scattered 2s and 4s.
2048 strategy guide
Pick a corner and keep your biggest tile there. Use two directions most of the time, for example down and left, the third only when you must, and avoid the fourth, which pulls the big tile out of its corner.
Build a chain along the edge: the biggest tile in the corner and smaller values descending next to it, so merges cascade towards the corner. Keep that edge row full so a sideways move can't open a gap beside your big tile.
Think about where the new tile will land. Leave room for it away from your chain, and merge small tiles early, before they scatter and block the board.
Frequently asked questions
What happens after I reach 2048?
You can keep playing. Reaching 2048 is a milestone, not the end: the game ends only when no move is left, and the leaderboard ranks your final score.
How is the score counted?
Every merge adds the value of the new tile: merging two 8s into a 16 adds 16 points. The big merges late in the game are worth the most.
How are new tiles chosen?
After every move one new tile appears in an empty cell: a 2 nine times out of ten, otherwise a 4. They come from a seeded random sequence, so the server can replay your game to verify the score, and the daily challenge gives everyone the same seed.
Is 2048 free to play?
Yes. Every game on Puzzimo is completely free and runs in your browser on desktop, tablet and phone — no download or installation.
Do I need an account?
No. You can play instantly as a guest and still appear on the leaderboards. Sign in with Google, Discord or LINE to keep your scores on every device.
How does the daily 2048 challenge work?
Every day at 00:00 UTC everyone gets the same new puzzle. Only your first finish of the day counts on the leaderboard.
How are leaderboard results verified?
Our servers replay every move of your game and measure the time themselves, so leaderboard results can't be faked.
